ScorecardIndia all-rounder Krunal Pandya proved that he is a quick learner as he turned his performance around in just two days time to return match-winning figures for the team in the second T20 international against New Zealand on Friday.Krunal’s 3 for 28 in four overs helped India register their first win in a T20I match in New Zealand as the hosts were restricted to 158 for 8 which the visitors chased down with ease in 18.5 overs.Krunal was hammered for 37 runs for just 1 wicket in the last match which India lost by a record margin. But the left-arm spinner pulled up his socks and used all his variations to bamboozle the Kiwi batsmen.”It felt really nice to contribute for the team. It’s always special when you contribute to a win. The dimensions are quite different from Wellington, the straight boundaries were short and I had to adjust my length to it. Looking forward to the decider in two days’ time,” Krunal said after receiving his man-of-the-match award.Krunal had picked up two wickets in his very first over of the match as he sent back the dangerous Colin Munro and Daryl Mitchell within four deliveries. The 27-year-old then returned in the next over to snare the wicket of captain Kane Williamson to leave New Zealand tottering at 50 for 4 in 7.5 overs before Colin de Grandhomme made a quickfire 28-ball 50 to rescue the [email protected] strikes again! Shikhar Dhawan (30) and MS Dhoni (20 not out) also made significant contributions.India’s win sets up the series nicely as both teams now stand level at one-win each. Edmund Bartlett, says both the Sangster International Airport and the Montego Bay Convention Centre have been helping Jamaica to make huge inroads in the business travel market. In an interview with JIS News, Mr. Bartlett said the situation is further boosted by the fact that a number of quality hotels are also in close proximity to both facilities. He argued that the country is not only a global force in the business travel market but “we can now make a solid push” for elite and high-end travellers.“The Sangster Airport has been more than proving its worth as it continues to set records in terms of visitor arrivals,” Mr. Bartlett pointed out.“Business travellers for the most part like to find everything as close as possible to their liking, so having the Convention Centre and some of our top hotels within striking distance of the airport is a major plus and certainly sets us apart from our regional competitors,” he added. The business travel industry is estimated to be worth US$1.3 trillion, and is expected to grow by nearly 10 per cent by 2025.In the meantime, the Sangster Airport has been named the Caribbean’s leading airport for the 11th year in a row by the World Travel Awards (WTA), and continues to burst at the seams in terms of arrivals.“We have been doing a lot of infrastructural upgrade where this airport can be compared to any of the quality airports worldwide,” explained the airport’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rafael Echevarne.“We are also honoured to be named the Caribbean’s leading airport. This prestigious award validates our ongoing efforts to deliver world-class service and showcase Jamaica’s rich culture,” he said.Several transformational projects are now under way to bring further upgrades to the airport, including an expansion of the commercial concourse and automated parking facilities. The CEO said there are also plans for a new shopping area and an increase in the size of the immigration and customs hall. read more

House Approves Extension Of SOE In South St Andrew

In his address to the House, Mr. Holness reiterated that the SOE is not a long-term solution to fighting crime. The House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 1) approved the extension of the State of Public Emergency (SOE) for the South St. Andrew Police Division until January 4, 2020. The SOE for the division was announced by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, on Sunday, July 7, 2019. The House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 1) approved the extension of the State of Public Emergency (SOE) for the South St. Andrew Police Division until January 4, 2020.The SOE for the division was announced by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, on Sunday, July 7, 2019.In his address to the House, Mr. Holness reiterated that the SOE is not a long-term solution to fighting crime.“It is a solution that has yielded results, and we are well aware of the challenges and the downsides to the SOEs. We have done everything possible and we continue to be vigilant to ensure that the downside of the SOE is not such that it outweighs the benefit of the SOE,” he said. The Prime Minister noted that between April 14 and July 6 (84-day period before the SOE was put in place), there were 53 murders in St. Andrew South.“In the comparative period in 2018, there were 29 murders. Since the SOE has been in place for 84 days, we have had 22 murders. I wouldn’t argue [whether the SOE has done enough], but we could all agree that it has more than cut in half the number of murders in the parish,” he said.“We have saved, by virtue of the collective action of this House by putting in place the SOE… 30 lives. There were 51 shootings in the 84 days before the SOE – that is down to 27,” Mr. Holness added. He further argued that the SOE continues “to bring us results if it is used judiciously”.The Prime Minister noted that it is very important that criminals understand that there is a consensus among lawmakers to have a firm handle on crime.“We have started a process of bringing down our murder rate from 1,600 in [2017]… . We have now brought it down to 1,280 [in 2018] and if we continue, we will bring down our murder rate to below 1,000,” Mr. Holness said. The SOE gives the security forces temporary additional powers, including powers of search, arrest and detention.During the SOE, the security forces will have the power to search, curtail operating hours of business, restrict access to places and detain persons without a warrant.
