first_img… Double-header action today at Den Amstel Community Centre groundWESTERN Tigers and Guyana Defence Force opened their Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League title quest on a winning note on Friday evening, when the country’s top football league kicked off at the Camp Ayanganna ground.Playing in the opening game of the evening, Andrew Murray Jr scored a lone goal which was enough to see Western Tigers past Linden-based Milerock FC. The Golden Jaguars forward scored in the 6th minute.In the night’s second game, a clash between the ‘armed forces’, GDF with goals from Sherwin Caesar (16th) and Jerome Richardson (77th) nailed Guyana Police Force (GPF), one of the new entrants to the Elite League, 2-0.Tonight, at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, last year’s third-place finishers and home side Den Amstel FC will play Ann’s Grove from 16:00hrs in the second match of the planned double-header.In the opening game, Victoria Kings will clash with Buxton United in an ‘East Coast Derby’ from 14:00hrs.Clubs will compete for a chance to win a grand total of $4.5M, where the winners will pocket $2M, second-place $1.2M and third-place $800 000. The team finishing fourth will take home $500 000.The GFF Elite League is the highest form of competitive football played in Guyana and according to the Rules and Regulations of Season 4, the 10 clubs will play one round of football, resulting in the club acquiring the most points being declared the winners.Match Days will feature mostly double-headers at stipulated venues on Fridays and Sundays with a few match days being scheduled for Saturdays.
