Jersey City Medical Center Poised for Cardiac Practice Growth

first_imgFor patients in need of expert cardiac care in Hudson County, Jersey City Medical Center is the only full-service heart hospital in the county.Jersey City Medical Center is leading the way in innovative, minimally invasive, and full open-heart cardiac procedures. Leading the surgery program is Tyrone Krause, M.D., Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Chair of Surgery, who joined JCMC in 2012. Dr. Krause completed his surgical residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He did his fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at Cornell University Medical Center/New York Hospital and is board certified in both general and cardiothoracic surgery. In 2018, he had the honor of being commissioned as a Navy Commander in recognition of his skill and experience as a heart surgeon, being sworn in by his daughter, Ensign Laura Krause.“We’re forging ahead with a lot of great programs at JCMC,” says Dr. Krause, whose colleague, Associate Chief of Cardiac Surgery Iosif Gulkarov, M.D., joined the medical staff at JCMC last year. “For example, in 2021 we’ll be adding the TAVR procedure to our list of services, offering patients with aortic stenosis a less-invasive treatment option.”Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is a minimally invasive procedure performed in a cardiac catheterization lab. The procedure, Dr. Krause explains, does not involve opening the chest and may be an option for patients who are at risk for complications from surgical aortic valve replacement. Patients who undergo TAVR typically spend less time in the hospital and have a faster recovery.Dr. Krause also praises the cutting-edge work performed by his electrophysiologist colleagues at JCMC, who offer procedures that include atrial fibrillation ablation to treat an irregular heartbeat. Other services provided by the cardiac surgery team include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), mitral valve repair and replacement, spontaneous coronary artery dissection, and procedures to treat aneurysms and myocarditis. While New York City has long been known as a destination for top cardiac and vascular care, many North Jersey residents should know that a world-class center of excellence is in the heart of Hudson County. Dr. Krause and his team are working to ensure patients and families are aware they do not need to go over the bridge for high quality care.  “We’re doing a lot of outreach in the community, not only in Jersey City but in Hoboken, Kearny, and elsewhere in the region,” he says. “From adult diagnostic and minimally invasive options to surgical treatment, look no further.”For more information, visit https://www.rwjbh.org/jersey-city-medical-center/treatment-care/heart-and-vascular-care/. ×Dr. Tyrone Krausecenter_img Dr. Tyrone Krauselast_img
