The mask featured the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Leprechaun mascot adorned in a Bruins jersey and winter hat. The back of the mask included Notre Dame football program’s famous mantra, “Play Like A Champion Today.” The Bruins classic “B” logo is also prominent on the sides. Rask reportedly doesn’t change his helmet often. He’s played with the same helmet for the past two seasons. Rask did wear special helmets at the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway and the 2016 Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium. While Rask told the press he was indifferent about the creation of the special helmet, many fans and sports journalists took to social media to compliment his new look.Rask performed well in Sunday’s game, making 36 saves. The Bruins went on to win, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-2.Acciacca, who has created designs for Rask’s helmet in the past, also designed the goalie mask that Carter Hutton of the St. Louis Blues wore in last year’s Winter Classic. The mask paid tribute to the St. Louis Cardinals, featuring the logo, the years the Cardinals won the World Series, and some of the greatest players in Cardinals history. Hutton, a UMass Lowell graduate, regularly turns to the Wilmington airbrush studio and custom paint shop for his goalie masks.Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook. Follow Wilmington Apple on Twitter.
